Attenborough Update December 2021

Alison Hammond is the newly appointed Membership Secretary and Internal Communications Officer,  who will be keeping members up to date with what is happening at the Club.  Alison has circulated the following update:

Advent Window
A big thank you to Jane and all the children, parents and grandparents involved in the coaching programme that helped put together the club entry for this year’s Attenborough Advent Window Trail. It was unveiled on Sunday 19th December and will be up until early January.

There are about 27 windows on the trail and you can obtain a map from Alistair Langton of St Mary’s Church.  There is also a competition for the first person who spots a new window.  Alistair Langton’s mobile number is 07976 212888 or email alistairlangton@gmail.com
To enter the competition – Text 07976212888 on the day you see a new window or post a message to the St Mary’s Church Attenborough Facebook page.

This is a great way for the club to get known around the area so please make any visitors welcome and please be careful of the extra lights that are in the clubhouse as part of our entry!

Saul reported back on last week’s Christmas social night out tenpin bowling: 45 people attended from various sections of the club which allowed lots of people to meet for the first time with some friendly competition. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Around 16 members then met at the Star Inn in Beeston for a few drinks. Overall it was a really fun night out to end what has been another difficult year with Covid.

Team News
There has been a lot of discussion amongst the committee members about the difficulties of getting enough ladies for the mixed teams, and the possibility of dropping the 3rd mixed team. If any ladies are interested in playing and/or and if you have any comments about playing for the club teams then please contact Louise or Joanna or myself.

Update on the Men’s 2nd team from Dean: the team should have played 3 winter league Division 4 matches before Christmas but unfortunately have had 2 rearranged, and the next home match against Mapperley Park on the 2nd January is looking like it will also be rearranged.

The team, Bob Bridges & Mark Green, Ruman Rahman & Martin Sharples and Philip Birkett & Brandon McGlave, lost a very tight match at Woodthorpe 51-57 away on the 25th November.

That’s all for now.

I hope you all enjoy whatever seasonal celebrations you might be having,  and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

July 2021 Covid Update

The country has moved to Step 4 of the Government roadmap from 19 July, meaning that most legal restrictions have been lifted. There are no longer any restrictions on how many people can take part in tennis activity, indoors or outdoors.

If you, or anyone you live with, have any symptoms of Covid you should not come to the club

Tennis remains a naturally socially distant sport and relatively low risk activity. However, undertaking the  key points listed on the LTA website (see below) can help to ensure the safety of participants when attending the club and reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19

More information can be found online via the LTA website
