Playing opportunities

The handicapped tournament and Singles’ Leagues are well under way. As we cannot usefully put up information in the club house, results will, hopefully, be posted on the website.

I have now started a sort of Saturday Social booking system for 4, 8 or 12 people to play. I tried to work out who used to come to Saturday afternoon social and have made up a distribution list from those people. If you’d like to be on the list, please let me know. We can book courts (3, if there are enough players available) and can mix up (see below). Perhaps someone might like to try to sort a similar system for Sundays?

Adult coaching/drills session

is running again on a Saturday morning (9am to 10am) for members and non members but must be booked online via Attenborough Tennis Academy. At the moment we can only take 5 people according to the LTA rules on social distancing, but, if there is enough demand, a second session will be run (10am to 11am). Let Andy or Saul know if you’d be interested.

Juniors/coaching:

is currently happening on a Tuesday but, as things change, we are hoping to have some Saturday coaching again. Again we are restricted by the LTA rules on numbers but we hope that these will be changing soon.

Lockdown rules:

Although there has been no further guidance from the LTA, it is clear that people are behaving really sensibly in observing all the new precautions. Thus, it seems sensible to allow some mixing in between courts provided that everyone involved is happy to do so. Please remember that some people are either at risk themselves or living with an at risk person and need to maintain a stricter distancing regime.

Other than this, the rules remain the same: courts need to be booked using Clubspark, Attenborough, BYO balls (marked), keep 2 metres apart, wash hands and sanitise before playing, etc. The clubhouse remains closed as we cannot guarantee it as a virus free environment.

Non Members/Potential new members:

The LTA is launching a massive national campaign to persuade adults back to tennis. Part of this involves clubs being on Rally (a sort of comparison website for tennis clubs) and offering opportunities for non members to play using pay and play or private bookings. At the moment we are looking to use our Saturday morning pay and play opportunity to enable us to register with this, but we may need to consider whether we can offer further opportunities to get people into the club (and raise funds) by offering greater accessibility for non members. If you have any thoughts on this please contact any of the committee members (or me!)

Subscriptions:

I’m told that lots of people have renewed their membership already – many thanks. We will shortly be putting the membership onto the Clubspark system and want to have our list as up to date as possible, so if you still haven’t renewed, please could you do so ASAP.

It’s good to be back playing!

Jane
