Winter Tennis

Keith has volunteered to organise the players for the Thursday evening sessions at Clifton. If you are interested in playing, he really needs to know everyone’s availability for each session till Christmas, and whether you definitely want to play or be an ‘if needed’/occasional player. You can provide him with this information by clicking onto the link which was sent in the email on 30/10/18 by me. Having played last Thursday, I have to say it was a million times better than going to the Tennis Centre!

Courts

We have arranged for the courts to be deep cleaned starting on Monday 5th November. This will be very expensive but, as one person remarked, ‘A tennis club with courts that aren’t safe to play on is a bit ridiculous!’. We did consider only having parts of the courts cleaned and treated for moss/algae, but this would have meant that different areas of the courts would play differently so was not the idea.

As part of the plan for keeping the courts free of moss and algae in future, we have also booked Canopy Tree services again to cut the hedge at the side of court 3. Hopefully, by cutting it well back from the fencing as well as reducing the height, more air and light will get to the court surface. Could members please help with this by clearing leaves and other debris from the courts.

Social Event

Following the success of the last Beeston social/pub crawl (!), we will be getting together between 6.30 and 7pm in the Crown pub in Beeston on Friday 9th November with a view to going on to listen to some live music. Everyone is welcome. Just turn up and fight for a seat on the night!

Leagues/Competitions

Well done to people for getting the majority of the Singles’ leagues’ matches played. Well done again to Doug for organising and for encouraging everyone to complete their quota of matches. This remains an extremely popular part of the club.

No-one came forward to captain the men’s 4th team so we have only entered 3 men’s teams in the winter league. If we can get someone to take it over we may resurrect the fourth team next summer.
