News for Members by Jane Bowden
Lots of news again.
Open Day/Hallowe’en event
At 3pm next Sunday Saul is running a special fancy dress Hallowe’en event aimed at attracting more members, especially juniors, to the club. There are lots of prizes and tennis activities plus hot food and other refreshments for both adults and children. We will need helpers/greeters/players to ensure that people have a positive experience and realise what a lovely club we are! There will also be some special membership offers for all ages for the remains of this tennis year, i.e. till end of March.
Cardio Tennis Changes
Because of the nights drawing in and also the event next Sunday, Cardio tennis will be moving from Monday evening to Sunday afternoon at 2.30 starting from 5th November. It’s a great way to increase fitness for all levels of players and, given the date, should be accompanied by some interesting bangs, crashes and fizzes! David Yorke is the cardio champion at the moment and needs some more people to challenge him for the Duracell bunny award!
Steve Briggs is getting on well with the decorating of the inside of the clubhouse and hopes to be finished by the end of this week. We will then get the carpet and other flooring sorted out. We are also considering getting the outside painted/renovated. If you have any particular interest in colour or anything else, please get in touch.
Please note that there is a lot of lost property that has been left in the clubhouse and this WILL BE REMOVED NEXT SATURDAY. Please claim anything that is yours.
It’s that time of year when we need to keep on top of clearing the leaves to ensure moss growth is kept to a minimum. Please, can everyone help with this? Please also be aware of wearing suitable footwear as the courts can be a bit slippery.
Teams and Captains for Winter Leagues
We have the following teams and captains in the leagues this winter:
3 mixed teams (Saul, John O. and Saul as captains),
2 Ladies’ (Dawn, Fiona Galli and Sorriya)
4 men’s (Chris L, Graham, Dean, Chris L.)
Obviously, it’s not ideal to have one person captaining 2 teams, so if anyone would be prepared to take over the Men’s 4th team (entered in order to give new/young/inexperienced players the opportunity to play in matches alongside more experienced players), I’m sure Chris Lacey would be delighted!
A fixture list is available at Play -> Fixtures. It may help to avoid disappointment if you check the list before planning to play at the club on some Sunday afternoons. Thanks as usual to Bob for managing the ‘interesting’ task of sorting out fixtures, along with his merry band of helpers.
It’s hard to think about at the moment but we need to get ready for Wimbledon! Please ensure that you have membership of British Tennis (free) and have opted into the ballot on the BT website (very easy to do) EVEN IF YOU PERSONALLY DO NOT WANT TICKETS! The more people opted in, the more tickets we are allocated as a club. Every year when we do the club ballot, some people enter even though they are not registered with BT or haven’t opted in. It is now impossible for tickets to be allocated to such people and they are inevitably disappointed.
