Tennis Nets | Courts | Social Activities | Next Committee meeting
Dear All
Things are ticking along at the club so just a few points to mention:
Tennis Nets
Please can we start winding down the nets on the artificial grass courts after play. Apparently this reduces wear and tear on the nets. There will soon be some new measurers to help with resetting the nets. Do not attempt to wind the net on the fourth court! This has been ‘fixed’ as it is slightly faulty and tends to collapse if wound in any direction.
Courts
This is a nuisance time of year for leaves for us, surrounded as we are by trees with lots of leaves! Please help with brushing up leaves before playing as this helps to prevent moss and algae growth. We are in the process of getting an additional bin to help with getting rid of the leaves.
Related to this, there is once again a build up of algae in the carpet. The advice we have had suggests that a few good frosts should solve the problem, but so far, the weather has been too mild, and the algae are happily multiplying away! Please be aware of this and check that the courts are not too slippery before any type of play (coaching, social, matches).
The Court Three Hole also seems to be getting more pronounced (must be Bob hitting it so often with his angled shots). The committee plan to get this repaired in the spring.
Social Activities
A night of 10 pin bowling is our next social activity. Have a word with John Outram if you are interested. This will probably take place after Christmas now. We could also have another meal out for the start of the season (March or April time) if people would like it. Please can you just let me know if you would or wouldn’t be interested. Last time we went to Finton’s Bakehouse at Breaston. Would you like to return there or try somewhere else?
Finally, and abusing my position as writer of this update, I’d like to invite you to the Wollaton Singers’ Christmas Concert at Beeston Methodist Church on Wollaton Road (opposite Sainsbury’s and next to the Commercial pub) on Saturday 12th December at 7.30pm. This is in aid of a helipad project and a pain relief centre, both at QMC. Tickets are only £5 on the door and refreshments are included.
Next Committee Meeting:
7.30pm, Monday 8th February 2015 at Lorraine’s house.
