Dear All

Summer League Format

Here is a summary of the responses that I have received about the proposed changes to the Summer League format. I will try to summarise the responses when I send this back to the Notts LTA but a few strong messages came through:

  • No sudden death deuces unless weather/light is an issue and this can then be agreed by captains
  • generally summer matches are too long, and for lower level leagues should either be 4 players playing 4 sets or 4 sets with a professional tie break if they draw, or 6 players playing 4 sets
  • higher leagues should remain unchanged

If anyone else wants to contribute to this debate please let me know.

Grounds and Maintenance

Once again, many thanks to those who turned out to decimate the hedge! (Actually it is starting to shoot again.) We still need to get rid of the rubbish so if anyone can help that would be great. Already we have had offers of a builder’s bag and a man with a van! The other hedge is due to be cut next week by a man called Paul from ‘Dirty Wellies’. The other good news is that our ‘secret gardener’ (Chris Metcalfe) has agreed to take on the role of overseeing the grounds etc. and will be contacting people again about another work party to finish off the hedge.

8s Tournament

Liz will be running one of her famous 8s tournaments on Saturday 19th September so please put that in your diaries. They are good fun and suitable for players of all different abilities as you have a new partner in each round and play 4 games with your partner and then 4 games against them. Please bring something to contribute to a tea.

Singles League

It’s great to see some heavy duty singles play going on at the club! Please ensure matches are arranged and played before the end of September to be in with a chance of winning.

Social Event

For a change from a club meal, we are considering have an evening of Ten Pin Bowling. If you might be interested in this please mention it to John Outram (or email me). We’d just like to gauge the level of interest.

Sunday Social Tennis

Sunday social tennis is slowly growing! Please continue to let people know if you are coming so that we can ensure that we have at least one 4. Use the club Facebook page or email/text me.

As a dog lover I find it hard to resist giving visiting dogs a bit of attention. However, the club does have a long standing rule that dogs should not be anywhere on the premises. This is because some people are allergic to, or frightened of, dogs, even ones which their owners know would never do anything horrible. This is particularly true when the summer camps are on at the club; lots of small excited children and dogs, no matter how good natured, are a recipe for trouble. Please take personal responsibility for keeping this rule; it is not pleasant for people to have to point it out to individuals who ignore it.

Winter Leagues

The club has entered the same number of teams as last winter for the winter leagues, i.e. we are back to 2 ladies’ teams! Keep recruiting new members to ensure that we can actually field these teams.

Here are a couple of adverts for the club:

If you know of somewhere suitable for placing these adverts please do so.
