LAWN tennis! | Club Tournament | Singles Competition | Another Tournament | Coaching | Ladies | Social
If you fancy playing on grass there is a tournament this weekend at Chilwell Memorial courts. It is £5 to enter and starts at 2pm. Contact Tim Bond at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or just turn up. We are hoping to build a relationship with this club that will benefit members of both.
Once again Mike has put a lot of work into organising the club tournament. Please support it by entering! Even if you don’t have a partner for doubles, just put your name down and you will be paired with someone. Ladies, in particular, are needed! The only stipulation is that you need to be available for Finals’ Day which is on Sunday 19th July. There is no entry fee; it’s just another opportunity to play some tennis. Also, please make the most of any decent weather and get matches played in good time. Not everyone can match Murray’s ability to play a semi and final on one day!
Doug has also done a great job getting the singles’ league up and running and there have been some very competitive matches. This brings an added dimension to the club and meets the demand for more singles, rather than just doubles, play. Singles gets priority on a Monday evening but can be played other times when courts are free.
A date for your diaries: 19th September, for another of Liz’s special 8’s tournaments. This is a social/fun tournament with refreshments.
Ross has now finished his degree (congratulations) and is available for coaching individuals (all ages), groups and teams. Having attended his Tuesday evening Pay and Play session I can confirm that he is a real asset to the club. Please note that these sessions run from 7 to 8.30 and only cost £2.50 for members, £5 for non members.
Ladies’ membership remains an issue and we need to continue to recruit and develop the ladies’ section. It helps enormously if we get a good turnout of men, as well as women, on a Thursday practice night.
Another social has been suggested, probably in the autumn. Please let me know if you are interested and if you have any preferences for a location. For new members, this is open to partners who are not members. In the past we have been to various local restaurants including Crème in Stapleford and Finton’s Bakehouse in Breaston. Also, if anyone fancies organising it, I’d love to hear from you!
