Courts | Social | Membership | Coaching and Evening Tennis | Dan Gardner | Next Committee Meeting
To those nesh ones amongst you who didn’t go down to play yesterday (Sunday) in freezing fog, I have to say – you probably made the right call (unlike the other 7 of us)! However, as the weather improves (we hope) don’t forget that Sunday afternoon tennis starts at 1.30 each week unless there is a (rare) afternoon match. Details of matches are on the ‘Fixtures‘ page.
It seems that the suggestion that some good hard frosts would sort a lot of the court surface problems out was correct as the algae patches seem to have largely disappeared. Captains, please still keep an eye on whether courts are safe for matches.
We are also obtaining some new brushes for the courts (thanks Bob). Please make sure that courts are brushed after use, unless they are very wet. This spreads the sand and makes the carpet last longer.
Many thanks to those who responded to the questions about a start of season social (especially those who confirmed that they read these emails!). Ruman and Bob get the prize for being the first to respond. For those who have been distracted by recent events the questions were:
- Would you (and your partner) be interested in a start of season social? (March/April time)
- Would a Friday suit? Or is there a better night?
- Any suggestions for a place to go (So far Table 8, Crème, The Vic have been suggested – response to these suggestions welcome)
- Would anyone else like to organise it?
Increasing club membership remains a priority so please spread the word and encourage friends, family, anyone really, to come and try us out as a visitor.
Coaching and Evening Tennis
Evening coaching and social tennis restarts this week at George Spencer academy. Contact Scott for Pay and Play on Tuesdays and also if you would like to use one of the courts just for a game arranged by yourself, i.e. not for coaching/Pay and Play. Thursdays start at 6pm. Players do not have to be club members to join in these events.
Pay and Play/coaching on a TUESDAY night will not be starting again until 24th February. Thursday evenings start this week as normal.
A message from Andy about his son our Assistant Coach, Dan:
"I’d like to thank everyone who sponsored Daniel for his ‘Coast to Coast’ cycle ride for the charity ‘Re-cycle’. With all the amazing support that he received, primarily from ALTC, he managed to raise an incredible £350.00 in sponsorship!!
We really appreciate all the generous donations made. He completed the 140 mile cycle ride from 24.10.14 to 27.10.14, over 3 ½ days cycling. The big event when he travels to Central America is now only approx. 5 weeks away."
Next Committee Meeting:
Monday 12th January at 7.30 at Lorraine’s house. If anyone wishes to raise any issues please let me or another Committee member know.
