An Update with lots of congratulations this time!
- To Bob Bridges and Keith Pentelow for winning an ‘open’ vets tournament at the Tennis Centre.
- To Chris McGill, one of our On the Ball coaches, and his wife on the birth of their daughter, Flora, on Sunday.
- To David Yorke, long time Chairman and very long term member of the club, on entering his eighth decade.
- To Chris Bell who has now graduated. Unfortunately he will now be leaving Nottingham to start his new career in Reading. All the best, Chris, we will miss you.
More congratulations to everyone involved in the tournament, especially the finalists and winners of course. Full details of the results should be on the website soon. Many thanks to Mike for all his excellent organisation and chivvying skills and also to those people who came along to watch on Finals Day; there were some excellent matches (and a fine tea too!). At the last Committee meeting there were a number of suggestions for making the tournament even better by extending it slightly into the first weekend of the fortnight and putting the draw on the website so people can plan their matches more easily.
Liz will be organising a (slightly) less competitive doubles social tournament next month – look out for more details.
OTB are running a series of Open Days (or rather evenings) offering free tennis sessions for families or individuals on Tuesdays in August from 5.15 to 6.30pm. There is also an extension of the special membership rates offer during August. If you know of anyone who might be interested in either please encourage them to participate. This is all part of the club development plan’s key target of increasing membership.
We have been guilty in the past of rather neglecting the club website but this has all changed! Much effort has gone in to updating the info on the website and to extending it too. Eventually these Updates should become obsolete as all information will be available on the website. In the meantime please let us know if there is more information that should be on the site or if you have any suggestions for improving it (especially in terms of attracting new memebrs who will often access the website first.
It is quite difficult at the moment to get information on each team’s performance to circulate here. However, from Winter League onwards captains will need to enter their results directly onto the Notts LTA website and we hope to add a link to our website so all match information will be available.
At the last Committee meeting we also discussed how many teams to enter and agreed that it would remain at 2 ladies’ and 3 men’s. There was some discussion about the number of mixed teams, i.e. whether we should have 2 or 3. The main issues are: have we got enough ladies to play and who would be prepared to captain? If you have any views on this please contact a committee member or send me an email.
Although doubles tends to be the main type of tennis played at Attenborough, there are some players who are keen to play more singles. If this is you then please note that there is a new singles league organised by the LTA. To find out details check out www.britishsinglesleague.co.uk. Alternatively, just sign up for the club singles league organised by Doug Lyburn (details are on the notice board).
Next Committee Meeting
Monday 22nd September at 7.30pm.
Contact any committee member or send me an email if there is an issue you wish to raise or if you have any suggestions for improving the club.
